Thank you Gordon, for allowing Dave and I to harvest some bamboos to take up north for Bamboo DNA's plantation! We learned how to create "divisions" to preserve both the culms and rhizome, or root stock, for transplantation. My favorite tool for the job was definitely a pickaxe. The dirt can be quite hard in places and the extra thick head of the tool's handle means you can lever the bamboo up without breaking the tool.
In all, we spent most of the day there and loaded up the 12' trailer with about 8 different specimens for the 12 hour drive north. A long, heavy haul!
